OFF SEASON THOUGHTS: YOUR WEBSITE. IT'S IMPORTANT.

OFF SEASON THOUGHTS: YOUR WEBSITE. IT'S IMPORTANT.

MARCH 25TH 2015

Attention to your website is important. No Duh (that's a technical term btw).  However, we are amazed how often we service websites that have not been updated, changed, or added to in many cases for years!  During the set up and build of a Flybook Reservation System for a new customer; some of the first questions we ask are“…is your web site current? Are the activity and tour descriptions accurate? Is pricing correct? Is the necessary logistical information available for your customers?” ...yadayadyayada (more technical mumbo jumbo) You’d be surprised how often the answer is, “NO.”

Furthermore, the next question we typically ask is,”…what is the primary source of new business?” If I were a betting man I would guess that 90% of the responses are,”… our website.”

Hmmmmmm...do we see the problem yet?

If this sounds familiar here are 4 recommendations for your consideration:

1.)    Get control of your website.

If you have to call your “web guy” every time you want to change content, add pictures, or pages; you should consider a new “web guy.”  There is no reason that in 2015 you should not have 24/7 access to the most important revenue driver of your business.

2.)    Add content regularly… and don’t over think it.

Content is the most important (and the cheapest) SEO/SEM element of any website, and all it requires is effort and time.  Keep your content additions short and sweet.  You don’t need to be the next Bill Shakespeare. Make it a routine (and make your routine realistic) and have fun with it.

3.)    Social Media is NOT your website.

Social media is a very important part of any comprehensive content/web marketing program. It is a "piece" that is a complimentary tool to an effective parent website (more on this later).  Posting to Facebook or twitter when you have 14 followers or 22 likes does nothing more than keep the news feeds of your friends and families full.  If you can’t say that Facebook, Twitter, or <enter your favorite social media service here> is your #1 driver of new business, then take the time and add the content you are posting to social media and get it on your website or blog.

4.) You're site NEEDS to be mobile responsive.

80% of internet users are on a smart phone...nuff said.  Also, if your site just gets smaller on a smart phone, that is NOT responsive.
