Elevate Your Waiver Process with Flybook’s New Signature Field Feature

At Flybook, we’re always looking for ways to streamline your operations while keeping your business and your guests protected. That’s why we’re excited to announce a brand-new feature for Flybook Waivers: the option to include an electronic signature field! This update gives outdoor recreation operators like you even more flexibility in how you manage liability waivers, enhancing the guest experience without sacrificing peace of mind.

What’s New?

If your business uses Flybook Waivers, you can enable a setting called "Include Required Signature Field" during the waiver setup process. Once activated, your guests will be prompted to "draw" their signature—whether with a mouse on a desktop or a finger/stylus on a touchscreen device—before completing the waiver. This signature is then securely stored as part of the waiver record, giving you a tangible record of their agreement.

Of course, we haven’t removed the tried-and-true electronic acknowledgment checkbox. Even with the signature field enabled, participants (or their guardians) will still need to check that box to confirm their acceptance. It’s an added layer of clarity for everyone involved.

Why Signatures Matter

There’s something undeniably reassuring about a signature. For many, it’s a familiar signal of commitment—a personal mark that says, “I agree.” By adding this option, you can offer your guests a waiver process that feels more official and tailored to their expectations. It’s a small touch that can elevate their perception of your business’s professionalism, especially for activities where risk management is front and center—like ziplining, rafting, or rock climbing.

Plus, having a stored signature alongside the waiver record can provide an extra layer of documentation. While it’s not a legal necessity (more on that in a moment), it’s a feature that can give you and your team added confidence as you manage your operations.

Digital Acknowledgments: Still Just as Binding

Good news for those relying on Flybook’s digital acknowledgment checkbox: it is as legally solid as the new signature field. The federal Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act—better known as the E-SIGN Act—signed into law in 2000, makes it clear that clicking a box to agree is a valid way to show consent, as long as the intent to sign is there. This law, which applies to interstate commerce across the U.S., says an electronic action like checking a box can’t be dismissed in court just because it’s not a handwritten signature. Pair that with the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (UETA), adopted by most states, and you’ve got a rock-solid foundation for digital agreements.

In fact, experts like those at DocuSign—a leader in e-signature solutions—point out that these laws have been upholding digital transactions for over two decades, ensuring they’re enforceable so long as the process shows clear intent and consent. Whether your guests check that box or draw their signature, Flybook’s system keeps you covered. The signature field is a nice bonus for those who want that extra personal touch, but legally? The checkbox has been holding its own all along.

How to Get Started

Ready to try it out? Head to your Flybook waiver setup, toggle on the "Include Required Signature Field" option, and you’re good to go. Your guests will see the new field the next time they complete a waiver, and you’ll start seeing those signatures roll in alongside their records. It’s that easy.
