Faces of Flybook: Zeb Millslagle

We asked our team members a little Q&A so that you could learn more about the faces behind Flybook! Get to know Zeb Millslagle, one of the engineers always improving our product, below.

What is your job at The Flybook?

Software Engineer. I help in the design, creation, and testing of the software and code that's behind The Flybook.

Are you local to Bend?

I was born in Bend, and now live here as well. Mostly I travel to wherever my next running race is, so mountain towns around the US (the last ones being Tahoe City, CA and Manitou Springs, CO.) My dream location to travel to is Chamonix.

What are some of your favorite things to do?

Running around in the mountains, skiing (nordic and backcountry), climbing, messing around on computers. If I'm not in the mountains, exploring everything I can, I'm probably tinkering around on a computer.

How would your family or friends describe you in 3 words?

From my Mom (so you know it has to be true): “Kind, puzzler, adventurous.”

What led you to the Flybook?

I was looking for a local company that shares my love of the outdoors, where I could do something in my field as well, and I was lucky enough to find the Flybook!

What are you currently reading or watching?

One of my all-time favorites is Lord of the Rings, both books and movies (and the rest of Tolkien's legendarium.) Currently I'm (slowly) reading through The Wheel of Time series.

What is your favorite feature of the Flybook product?

It's pretty hard to pick (and I don't want to be too biased,) but I would have to say memberships, because they provide a lot of cool opportunities for customers. And while they may initially seem simple, there's a lot of different ways you can use them, and a lot of depth to them behind the scenes.

If you could eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Burritos! You can do everything with burritos; breakfast, lunch, and dinner, everything's covered! If you're feeling adventurous, you could even do a Chinese-leftover burrito. They're just so versatile.

What do you like most about your job?

Definitely the people I work with. Everyone has an awesome attitude, shares my love of the outdoors, and each person is great to work with on projects.

Do you have any other passions or fun facts to share?

Currently my biggest passion is ultra running. Last year I did my first 100k (near Waldo Lake in Oregon), and this year I'm hoping to finish my first 100 miler (near Steamboat Springs). My parents, who helped develop my love of the outdoors, are probably my biggest fans, and my older brother is one of my favorite people to get outside and explore the mountains.
